Park circus sarbojanin durgotsav

The history of the Uddipani Club and Park Circus Sarbojonin Durgotsav goes back to the British era days when the Durga Puja remained a symbol of old Calcutta charm, nostalgia, class and elegance. The Park Circus Maidan, which itself has been itched in the history of erstwhile Calcutta aka Bengal, remains true to the spirit of the biggest festival of Bengal.

In Bengali, the word 'Uddipani' symbolises a true fighting spirit. The formation of the club dates back to the strong resistance against the British rulers, where the localities created a unique platform to beckon a regime change, that too in the heart and soul of Calcutta. The Durga Puja organised by the Uddipani Club became an instant hit among the masses, gathering mass support from all, irrespective of religion, caste, creed and other differences.

The Durga Puja celebration in modern-day Kolkata has evolved over the years. Many Puja pandals focus on theme Puja. But Park Circus Sarbojonin Durgotsav has always trusted in the classical style and people have gladly accepted that. With the faith and devotion in which Uddipani Club has celebrated Durga Puja every year, one can only say, the homecoming of Maa Durga has been a true blessing for everyone living in and around Park Circus.

On the 84th year of celebration, the Uddipani Club is gearing up for a big surprise under the leadership of Chief Patron Mr Babul Supriyo and ably supported by Chairman Sammi Jahan Begum.

May the blessings of Maa Durga continue to shower upon one of the oldest Durga Puja celebrations of the City of Joy.
